The Pontiac Holiday Tournament, founded in 1926 by Don “Cash” Seaton, physical education teacher and head basketball coach, has the distinction of being the original and oldest high school Christmas tournament in the nation. Seaton envisioned an event that would bring teams from different parts of the state to Central Illinois for three days during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. This is still the goal of of our tournament today. It is our hope that you the fans have a great experience watching some of the best teams, players, and coaches in Illinois participate in the 84th tournament.
On behalf of the Pontiac Township High School student body, faculty, and Board of Education, we extend a warm welcome to all players, coaches, spectators, and friends.
A large amount of planning and work is necessary to unfold a tournament of this size. We are pleased to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all who have contributed the time and efforts to make this tournament possible.
The Pontiac students deserve special praise for their efforts during the tournament. The cooperation of our local merchants, townspeople, and our high school staff, is essential in promoting a fine tournament.
Excellent teams, good sportsmanship, and enthusiastic spectators have combined to make this annual tournament one of the most successful in the state. We sincerely hope that everyone present will enjoy the tournament and will look forward to being with us again next year.
